If you’ve spent time around the Pearce pool recently, you may have met Liah Bohna, one of the newest members of the aquatics team. As a swim instructor, Liah brings a unique combination of teaching experience, creativity and a genuine love for making kids smile.

Liah has been part of the Pearce team for about four to five months, but she already feels right at home.

Before joining Pearce, Liah worked as an aerial arts instructor, where she gained valuable experience teaching children. She is also a professional mermaid—an especially fitting skill for someone who now spends her days teaching kids how to be confident and comfortable in the water.

“When I saw the opportunity at Pearce, I thought it was the perfect fit for me,” Liah says. Her experience working with children, combined with her love of swimming and entertaining kids, made becoming a swim instructor a natural next step.

For Liah, being a swim instructor isn’t just about teaching proper techniques and water safety. It’s about helping children build confidence while making their time at the pool a positive experience. “I hope to teach the kids what they need to be able to swim and hope to bring joy wherever I go,” she says.

When Liah isn’t at Pearce, she stays busy with an impressive list of hobbies and adventures. She enjoys swimming, aerial arts, paddle boarding, horseback riding, hiking, rock climbing and skating. She also loves anything creative and is always looking for something new to try.

Her adventurous and curious personality carries over into her work at Pearce. She describes herself as curious, calm, creative and kind—qualities that are especially valuable when working with children and helping new swimmers feel comfortable in the water.

One of Liah’s favorite things about working at Pearce is the people. “People are very friendly here and I love making the kids’ days!” she says. She gives a special shout-out to the aquatics group, who have helped her get comfortable in her new role and find her way around Pearce. “They helped me find my way around things and they’re easy to get along with,” Liah says.

Outside of work, Liah has three beloved pets: Willow, who is one year old, and Phoebe and Wally, both 10 years old. She also has an impressive accomplishment that some members may not know about: Liah was Ms. Chillicothe 2025–2026.

When it comes to relaxing, Liah chooses movies over books. With too many favorites to pick just one, she gravitates toward comedies, comfort movies, mysteries and horror films.

One of her favorite inspirational sayings captures her adventurous spirit perfectly: “You’ll miss 100% of the shots you never take.”

In just a few months, Liah has already become a welcoming presence at Pearce. Whether she’s teaching a child their first swimming skills, helping a nervous swimmer gain confidence or simply bringing a little extra fun to the pool, she hopes to make a positive impact every day. With her creativity, calm personality and love of working with kids, Liah is excited to continue growing with the Pearce team—and making a splash along the way!

Congratulations on being our Employee of the Month!
