October 2020 Employee

October Employee of the Month

Pearce would like to recognize Mary Ann Shatto as our October Employee of the Month!

Mary Ann has been a tutor at Pearce for five years, bringing a long history of education experience to our staff as she retired last year 6th grade for 20 years at Chillicothe Junior High. She said when tutoring first started at Pearce, she immediately knew she wanted to be involved. Many of the children she tutors are former students of hers, and she enjoys getting to see them continue to grow academically.

“I enjoy helping struggling students become more confident in their studies. I hope to guide them to success in whatever subject they are struggling in.”

Mary Ann is typically working with students in the Center on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, either in the Member Lounge or the second floor Meeting Room. In the first meeting of each session, Mary Ann gets to know the students and identifies their struggles before helping them correct any mistakes they’re making over the next few lessons.

In her free time outside of Pearce, Mary Ann enjoys reading and spending time with her family. Now that she is retired, she hopes to do some more traveling. She has a 9-year-old German Shepard named Daisy that she loves to walk around the neighborhood with her husband.

One of her favorite quotes for students is, “Mistakes have the power to turn you into something better than you were before. Everyone makes mistakes, it is part of being human.”

Three words that have been used to describe her are: Dedicated, compassionate, and caring, and those traits shine through her work!

Thank you, Mary Ann, for all that you do for our students, community, and Pearce!
