March Member of the Month
Pearce would like to recognize Cary & Pamela Rumba as our March Members of the Month!
Cary and Pamela are both retired. Cary is a retired educator who taught middle school science and social studies, elementary school, and served as a Cross Country and Track coach. Pamela retired from Public Relations and Non-Profit Development Director.
The Rumbas joined Pearce the first summer of their retirement, mid 2020. “We have really enjoyed the past five years!” Swimming was our first enticement at Pearce. Often, the pool is quiet with lap swimmers which allows us to exercise at our own pace.
When asked what they most enjoy about Pearce, they said “We have enjoyed Pearce from the very beginning. The facility and staff are top-notch. Though we knew no one from Chillicothe in the beginning, we made so many new friends! It is difficult to remember a time when we were “strangers!”
The Rumbas participate in many programs including water aerobics (sometimes 7 times per week), SilverSneakers Yoga, SilverSneakers, and Balance & Strength. They also enjoy the additional amenities in the pool including the hot tub and sauna. Cary enjoys playing ball in the water with “the guys”. It is very entertaining to watch! After classes they look forward to sharing coffee and conversation in the lobby. Their membership at Pearce offers them ample opportunities to enjoy the folks they have met in class, from sharing their eggs to enjoying homemade fudge, cookies, or noodles from other members. Pearce has become a “full service” opportunity for our social life, helping us to improve our health and to stay active.
When asked what advice you would give to a new member, they said “Try everything! Find a class, try the weight room, or go to the pool. We are blessed to have this available!”
In their free time, Pamela enjoys reading, while Cary enjoys raising chickens and pampering his pet turkey. Together they enjoy spending time with their German Shepard, spending time with family, and going to live concerts. Cary is also a singer with the Peoria Civic Chorale and church choir at St. Jude.
