This month, we’re proud to recognize DeeAnn and Macy McIntyre as our Pearce Community Center July Members of the Month!
DeeAnn, a retired Registered Dietitian, and her daughter Macy, a Shore Acres lifeguard and Biomedical Engineering student at Iowa State University, have been part of the Pearce family for many years, with intermittent breaks while living overseas and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Together, they’ve built a lifetime of memories through fitness, family, and community.
DeeAnn was first introduced to Pearce after being invited to a group fitness class and quickly found a love for exercising alongside friends. Macy enjoys having access to the pool year-round, where she can continue swimming laps regardless of the season.
One of their favorite aspects of Pearce is the sense of community. Whether catching up with familiar faces or encouraging one another in their fitness journeys, the friendships they’ve built have made Pearce feel like a second home.
DeeAnn enjoys spending time in the cardio room and participating in group fitness classes, while Macy loves swimming and working out with the free weights. Their family’s involvement extends beyond their own fitness as well—their children participated in Pearce’s house soccer leagues throughout elementary school, and Macy credits Matt Storti and the Pearce Swim Club for helping cultivate her passion for swimming.
Being active at Pearce has provided both DeeAnn and Macy with improved strength, endurance, and an overall sense of well-being, helping them stay healthy and energized through every stage of life.
Outside of Pearce, DeeAnn enjoys spending time with family, growing cut flowers, planning vacations, and preparing for retirement on the family farm. Macy spends her free time exploring fashion design and sewing while continuing her Biomedical Engineering studies at Iowa State University.
When asked about words they live by, DeeAnn shared one of her favorite Dr. Seuss quotes: “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.”
Macy’s favorite saying is one passed down from her mom: “My mom raised a complainer, not a quitter.”
Their advice to fellow Pearce members is simple but powerful: “Success isn’t about greatness, it’s about consistency.” — Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
Congratulations, DeeAnn and Macy! Thank you for being dedicated members of the Pearce community and for inspiring others through your commitment to health, wellness, and supporting one another.
