January 2021 Employee

Pearce would like to recognize Dan Razo as our January Employee of the Month!

Dan began at Pearce as a volunteer in June 2016 before joining our staff officially in November of 2016 as a Building Attendant. In this role, Dan is a valuable part of the team that keeps our facility safe and clean on a daily basis. His work behind the scenes setting up for events, classes, leagues, and other programs is essential for Pearce’s operation.

“I was retired from the US Postal in January 2016, and Liz Thorpe (former Fitness Director) suggested I do volunteer work at Pearce. I tried it and liked it. It kept me busy, and I like the Pearce Staff.”

Over the past four years, Dan says his favorite part of working at Pearce is always meeting new people and making new friends. He also enjoys using the facility to stay fit. “At my age, the most important thing is to be healthy and fit.”

Each day, Dan says he hopes to bring consistency and reliability to the cleanliness of the building. “I want members to be able to take for granted that the building will be clean, and the equipment cleaner, hand sanitizer, and towels will always be filled.”

Outside of Pearce, Dan spent a lot of time volunteering, playing guitar in a dance band before COVID hit. He would volunteer his musical gifts at Proctor, singing and playing for patients, and playing at St. Edward.

Dan enjoys watching old Western films, and any movie that deals with history. He also has three cats — Turbo, Pumpkin, and Sammy who he enjoys spending time with.

A fun fact about Dan is that he served two 6-month tours in Guantanamo Bay with the U.S. Marines in 1971-72.

His favorite inspirational quote comes from an old country song that goes a little something like this, “Can’t take it with you when you’re gone, but I want enough to get there on, and I ain’t ever growin’ old, if I keep on rollin’ with the flow.”

Thank you, Dan, for your hard work and dedication towards the maintenance of our facility!
